Who We Are
For Courage, For Community, For Country
Historically, the Fyrd was a community-based defensive force in Anglo-Saxon England. Ordinary people came together to protect their villages, towns, and families when threats emerged. It was not a professional army, but a gathering of neighbours — summoned when needed, united by duty. Thwarting the invaders of the time.....
Why Now?
Our times echo those moments of uncertainty. Then, as now, people looked to one another when leaders and institutions faltered. Just as the Fyrd was once raised to shield the community from outside danger, we believe the spirit of that tradition can be reborn: a protective shield built on solidarity, honour, and duty.
Our Vision
The modern Fyrd is a shield for the people — a network of neighbours ready to step forward when communities feel vulnerable. We aim to provide reassurance, presence, and support at the local level, summoned by the people themselves, for the sake of dignity and safety.
This is only the beginning. By standing together, we can renew the ancient spirit of community protection — through duty, courage and care.
